Bill, I drive a Tesla every day, sometimes for hours at a time, like my 217 mile round trip drive from LA to San Diego and back, on one charge, and I have never completely discharged the battery on any drive. Tesla is a significant player in the electric car market. That is why both Mercedes and Toyota are teaming up with Tesla. Also, I am not sure where you got the 1,000 figure from, Tesla is planning on manufacturing 20,000 Model-S cars in the first year.
